Meaning of Cafe Guerbois
I thought this was rather a fun name for a place where any type of discussion and posts could occur. Credit goes to Karin Wells for suggesting the name. Below is a brief introduction to the real cafe in Paris.
[list]"Nothing could have been more stimulating than the regular discussions which we used to have there, with their constant clashes of opinion. They kept our wits sharpened, and supplied us with a stock of enthusiasm which lasted us for weeks, and kept us going until the final realization of an idea was accomplished. From them we emerged with a stronger determination, and with our thoughts clearer and more sharply defined." |
<<By the way, if you're wondering how I got the indents, I bracketed my text with [ list ] [ /list ], except omit the spaces. If I didn't use the spaces, it would act as the command and you wouldn't see it>>
I think I know why there are "0" responses here. I'm an American who is fairly computer literate, speaks a little Spanish, a little French, even little Chinese, but I don't have a clue as to what the above information clip means. [10/31/02 -- Ten months and a few hundred posts later, I now get it. (But I still hate code. Give me buttons to push.)] |
Thanks Steve,
I was feeling down after multiple attempts to post an attachment to a post and double posting a message which I failed after several efforts to delete. Cynthia came through with the solution to my problems until I opened the "indent" post. It didn't cause me to feel totally inadequate or despondent but I didn't feel too good about my inability to understand the procedure. I then scrolled to your message and felt much better. I hope Cynthia won't be offended, but it did make me smile. |
You see how part of the text on my post above is indented? At the end, I'm giving the instructions on how to achieve indenting text on your own post.
Perhaps in posting you've never used any of the available codes to modify your text such as bold, italics, underline, color, etc. These are all available by using the buttons above your posting entry box when you make a new post. The codes provided for achieving this are slightly different than html codes so someone can't inadvertently enter wrong html and potentially cause a problem with the forum. One can use the buttons to enter the codes or once your learn the codes, just type them directly. The reason I put spaces in the code when I wrote about the list command is because with the space, the code would not display in my narrative but simply take effect and make a list (indented text) out of the text that followed. Examples of code (referred to as vBcode since this forum is by vBulletin) are: [ b ] your text [ /b ] - bold [ i ] your text [ /i ] - italic [ u ] your text [ /u ] - underline But, when you use these, you don't enter the spaces. If I left out the spaces, then the codes above would simply bold, italic or underline the text that followed and I wouldn't be able to communicate the codes to you. Does it make sense now? |
this is a sample in bold
this is a sample in italics this is a sample underlined I think I got it  Thanks for the information. |
You got it Mari! Well done!

Cafe What?
I have a riddle for you.
What do you call a person who speaks four languages? Quadralingal. What do you call a person who speaks three languages? Trilingual. What do you call a person who speaks two languages? Bilingual. What do you call a person who speaks one language? American. Having stated that, how does one pronounce Guerbois? :bewildere |
It's pronounced as if you were saying something like "gerr-BWAH."
