Book on Joaquin Sorolla

I have been looking for a year books on Sorolla. All I could find was the sale of a book published in 1989, which is out of print, and going on the internet for $200.

The San Diego Museum of Art has reprinted this 1989 book and I just bought one (35$).

Just thought I'd pass on the link in case anyone else is interested

Linda

Forget any book on Sorolla you have seen.. THE BEST SOROLLA BOOK is this one below:
Item Number: 72406
Title: JOAQUIN SOROLLA: Vida y Obra
Author: Pons-Sorolla, Blanca
Price: $325.00
ISBN: 8493003026

IT IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!!! Go to artbooks.com and order one. It was written by his grandaughter and has almost every painting he has done in BEAUTIFUL detail. I have all the other Sorolla books and this one is by far the best art book I have.

Enjoy!
Tony

P.S. I think these are limited edition books too so get one before they stop selling them as they will be $1000+ after that.

Thanks Tony!

With a recomendation like that from a talent like you, I gotta get me that book.

I think the day I sell my first official work in the fine art world, I'll make that my present to myself. I better do that soon be fore they run out!

Thanks

Dear Linda,

I have that 1989 book (since 1989), and I love it for inspiration.

Plate #25 in this book is of a painting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which is very unfortunately not on view, but in apparent permanent storage! This is an outrage! I came upon this painting in dim fluorescent lighting on sub level C of the museum last June quite by chance, and I have not been able to get it's beauty and power out of my mind since. I was told by the registrar staff that this painting, "Ninos a la orilla del mar" (Children on theSea-shore), 1903, would forever be in storage!

I wonder if the wonderful book Tony and Stanka have contains a better reproduction representation of this great painting?

Anyway, below are two miserable scan details of that painting from plate #25 (edited here due to innocent child nudity content).

Thanks for this Sorolla book thread and links.

Dear Tony (or Stanka),

I can't find any artbooks.com for some reason. Is there a link available to the site where you ordered your book(s)? I too am a HUGE fan of Sorolla, if I have not stated this already.

Thanks,

Garth

I found a link:

Sorolla Book $325.

I met Michael Shamansky, the bookseller, at a summer gallery within a huge adapted 19th century church structure, he ran in Jim Thorp, PA some sixteen years ago. He seemed very fond of my portfolio at the time. I remember him as a rather nice guy.

By the time I can conjure the funds, I hope copies of this book will remain.

Cincinnati

Beth was with our first class tour of the Cincinnati museum (a fun part) and then I went back every time I'm in the city. I also went to the Taft. This city has (I think) 3 Sorollas, 3 Sargents and 2 or 3 Zorns-all are first rate (and hanging Garth) I have some images somewhere.

This talk of Sorolla reminded me of the quality Sorolla there. I hangs next to Sargent's wonderful work of his nieces fishing. This Sargent by the way is so delicate and the design is just perfect.

Thanks for the tips on the book.

Glad to hear it Tim. For some odd reason they didn't mail mine until last week, so I just received mine too. I'm very happy with the# and quality of the reproductions, and particually surprised how interesting and informative the text is.

I got an email from someone who is interested in selling a copy of the 1989 book. He says it's in mint condition. He says price is negotiable. Anyone interested?
