Woodmere Museum award

1 Attachment(s)
Hi All, I was very pleased to find out that my portrait of Nancy Bea Miller won the Lloyd and Pear Van Sciver Award for best work by a Woodmere member. It's only a regional show, but I was very glad to receive the award since I (and everyone else around here) enters their annual juried exibition every year, and I've never won anything before!

Here's the link to the portrait in the Unveilings section:

And below is a photo of the subject of the painting, Nancy Bea (who is also an artist) and myself, standing in front of the portrait.

Congratulations, Alex,
this is so well deserved, I've always liked this sun-filled painting. :)

Alex, this is terrific news, and I am delighted for you! You are becoming positively award-ridden and you deserve to be. I am so proud to know you, and big congratulations!

Congrats, Alex!

Lacey Lewis 02-10-2007 05:34 PM

Woohoo! Congrats to you!!

Thank you, Allan, Linda, Cynthia and Lacey! I really appreciate your support. It has been frustrating (I'm sure many of you can relate to this) painting away, entering competitions, and NEVER winning awards--until 2005, then in 2006 I was totally surprised to win several, and now one in 2007! It is very exciting. As you say, Linda, I'm become "award-ridden" and it's almost embarrassing. But I am enjoying it nevertheless.

I was reflecting on the role the Forum has had in making me work harder and strive for better skills, and I think it has had a substantial influence on my work. There is a group of amazing artists on here, and it is inspiring to see your work and read what you have to say.

I somehow missed the unveiling of this, Alex. It is beautiful. That three-dimensional quality is awesome, on top of everything else. Congratulations!
