They mean nothing should be stuck on the slide mount's outside, because it can gum up the projector. Use a Sharpie or metallic pen to write the info on the mount itself.

You need to put Mylar silver tape on the film itself (so yes, you need to get it out of the mount, or at least remove half the mount if it's the snap variety), cropping the image so that nothing that you would not see inside the framed piece is seen on the slide. That means easel, fingers, toes, etc.

Follow the instructions exactly. The last thing in the world any of us wants is to have good work rejected for faulty presentation.
